The CarieScan PRO can measure the carious state of teeth early enough to initiate remedial (preventive) treatment. It enables earlier and more accurate detection of "early" caries lesions which are not clearly visible to the human eye. It also enables detection of the more extensive "hidden" lesions extending into dentine which can be missed by even the most careful examiner. Unlike competitors, the CarieScan PRO is not affected by optical factors such as staining or discoloration of the tooth. The CarieScan PRO has been designed to be used 'out of the box'. The PRO uses plain English messages to communicate status and actions to the user. Key presses are confirmed audibly. A number of result display options are available including a 'traffic light' colour pyramid indicating to the user the presence and severity of detected decay. Alternatively users can simply use the clear calibrated digital display of decay measurement.

The collar provides the interface between the CarieScan PRO and the sensor. Enabling identification of sensor type and application. The collar enables automatic 'no-touch' location and attachment of the sensor and subsequent 'no-touch' ejection by means of a rotating cuff.
