The PRO measures disease state directly – not indirectly – and isn’t fooled by stained or discoloured teeth or other visual artefacts. It’s the most accurate at 92.5% sensitivity and a specificity of 92.5% better than any alternative methods.

The CarieScan PRO™ stays accurate too. A replacement sensor is used for each patient, with built-in system tests for calibration accuracy. Alternative optical based devices use a ‘reusable’ tip which needs to be sterilised after each patient use. This sterilisation has been shown to degrade the effective accuracy such that after 50 uses the diagnostic ability of the system falls below 37% sensitivity, in the same low range as bitewing X-ray4.

Safe
The CarieScan PRO™ measures decay directly, using ac impedance spectroscopy (ACIST) to determine the mineral density of the dental substrate. To provide the reading, this direct measurement is compared to a classification map of reference densities built up through six years of research to provide the reading. Other methods rely on indirect optical or radiographic means, easily misled by stains or discolorations, or subjecting the patient (and the professional) to unnecessary and potentially damaging levels of ionising radiation. ACIST is harmless and can be safely used on patients of all ages and physical conditions.
Affordable
The CarieScan PRO™ uses a proprietary single patient disposable. Costs per test for the CarieScan PRO™ are less than both bitewing X Rays and, taking into account the need for the replacement of the optical tips, degraded by repeated sterilisation, less than current optical (LF) method based competitors.
